We've gradually been getting more practice with Maya, and high-poly modelling, which has resulted in the most recent task that we've been given which was to recreate an old, turn-style telephone, as accurately as we could using a reference photo.

I started out with the base, creating a flat cuboid and extruding the faces in and then up to create the bevelled look of the phone. I then went on to create the metal cylinder on top of the base, starting with another flat 3D shape before extruding in and up in increments to create the smooth curve of the metal cylinder. Having made the cylinder, as well as extruding faces on the upper half of the cylinder to create the main parts of the metal, I moved onto creating the support-type parts that come out from the centre of the cylinder. At this stage I also decided that it would be easier to tell which materials went where by changing the materials that were rendered in may. I used Blinn for the metals and Lambert for the base and wood textures.
